ANGLESEY ALUMINIUM METAL LIMITED

Anglesey Aluminium Metal Limited is an alumina tolling operation for its two equity partners, Rio Tinto and Kaiser Aluminium & Chemical Corporation, who are responsible for marketing of the finished product through their respective trading organisations, Rio Tinto Aluminium and Kaiser Aluminium International Incorporated. Anglesey Aluminium does not sell its finished product directly to customers.

The main purpose of the activities at the Smelter is to produce up to 147,000 tonnes per annum of aluminium metal from alumina by the Hall-Heroult electrolytic process. The metal is then cast into secondary products for sale - rolling ingot, extrusion billet or remelt ingot. The electrolytic process uses carbon anodes, which are manufactured on site and consumed as part of the smelting of aluminium oxide. Anode production capacity is approximately 300 anode blocks per day.

Anglesey Aluminium has an integrated Business Management System encompassing the Quality, Environment and Safety Aspects of the Business this is titled TWWW (The Way We Work) The company is currently accredited to BS EN ISO 9001:2000 and BS EN ISO 14001:2004 and is also audited against the Rio Tinto Corporate Safety Standards.

The visit will focus on Anglesey Aluminium's use of proven improvement drivers; Six Sigma, Lean and Asset Management in conjunction with an ongoing emphasis on improving Safety Performance.

All Inside Welsh Industry visits are free of charge from the 1st of April 2007

Cancellations
Inside Welsh Industry visits are free of charge, however, we are reserving the right to charge a cancellation fee of £50 where visitors who have booked, fail to attend the visit. We would encourage visitors who cannot attend to provide a substitute person in their place. This charge will cover the costs incurred setting up these visits
