Businesses urged to follow in Mid Wales company’s Trax

Welshpool-based Trax JH Ltd is one of Europe's largest producers of wheel balance weights for the automotive industry in Europe and the Middle East. Its consistent success and high standards have led to it being chosen as a ‘host’ company for the new Inside Welsh Industry (IWI) programme.

Recent changes in European legislation banning the use of lead in wheel balance weights meant Trax had to devise a new range of lead-free weights made from zinc, steel and copper. The company also introduced and developed an innovative adhesive weight. Together the changes have given the company a market-lead increasing turnover.

To meet the new demand a significant factory expansion is planned for 2007 involving the commissioning of 10 machines in November and creating 5 new jobs.

John Halle, Managing Director, Trax, which employs around ninety staff, said: “We are delighted to be working with the Wales Quality Centre and have the opportunity to help other companies learn from our experiences and business formula. Inside Welsh Industry is a great idea and I would urge all firms to get involved and seize the benefits on offer.”

WQC Chairman, Vincent Kane, explained: “To remain competitive in the global economy it is vital companies continuously improve and learn from best practice already at work in Welsh industry. Through sharing expertise firms can generate millions of pounds, boost Wales’ economy and develop a strong competitive edge. Trax is an example of quality manufacturing in Welsh industry and we’re delighted to have their support.”
