ROCKWOOL 14 March 2007

This visit will showcase Rockwool's environmental best practice and will also offer visitors a chance to participate in a workshop led by the Carbon Trust in Wales working in partnership with IWI.

Winners of the Wales Environment Awards in 2002 Rockwool Ltd, is the UK's leading manufacturer of mineral wool insulation. Office accommodation and amenity services are warmed with waste heat from the manufacturing process. Situated in the company's grounds is a Nature Study Centre within a Woodland Walk, developed in partnership with the Forestry Commission Woodlands for Learning Scheme and maintained by clients from Bridgend County Borough Council Day Centre at Bridgend. The Nature Study area is soon to be enlarged and, in conjunction with Careers Wales, visits to the amenity are being offered to local schools and colleges to learn about the environment and the links with industry.

The company sets targets for continuous improvement, and high levels of investment have been made over recent years in manufacturing efficiency. Reduced water consumption through the use of rainwater, decreasing energy consumption through improved efficiencies and overall improvements through design of raw material input and the use of recycled materials such as slags from the steel industry, demonstrate our commitment to the environment.

The Carbon Trust helps business and the public sector cut carbon emissions, and supports the development of low carbon technologies. The visit will concentrate on the practical issues that companies can tackle to reduce the level of carbon emissions at work and save money in the process. The participative workshop is focussed to benefit organisations in the following ways:

- Access Carbon Trust services
- Put energy into perspective - when, where and how much energy you are using
- Understand the costs of controlling energy
- Learn how to save energy
- Develop a carbon saving action plan
- Raise energy on to the management agenda

If your organisation is undertaking the ISO 14001, Green Dragon or if you want to make savings on operational costs this workshop will be of interest to you.
